Natural History Guides

These guides showcase the amazing variety of animal life found in Kansas City, including our local prehistoric life, insects, birds and mammals. Each guide contains a series of colorful illustrations for use in identifying native and introduced animals in KC. Paper copies of these guides are also available by request at the museum’s front desk.

Ages 3-5

These lessons are about 45-minutes each. They will help you guide children through a science topic typically led by Museum at Prairiefire staff—but are adapted so you can work with your child at home! Sessions include elements such as a short and exciting lesson, story time, an activity or experiment, artifact or animal encounters, and a craft.

Project Based Learning

Students work on a project over an extended period of time that engages them in solving a real-world problem or answering a complex question. They demonstrate their knowledge and skills by developing a public product or presentation for a real audience. As a result, students develop deep content knowledge as well as critical thinking, creativity, and communication skills. This type of learning unleashes a contagious, creative energy among students and teachers.
