STEAM Academy Preschool
Part-Time Aftercare Educator

The STEAM Academy invites you to bring your passion for learning and creativity to our team as a Part-Time Aftercare Teacher. Nestled within the vibrant and inspiring setting of the Museum at Prairiefire, our preschool offers a unique educational experience that combines the wonders of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math with early childhood education. Job Summary:

You will assist in guiding a class of 10 preschoolers, ensuring their safety, creativity, and involvement in various activities. Collaborate with the lead teacher to implement daily plans that resonate with our STEAM-focused curriculum and meet the Kansas Department of Education Standards. Hours are 2:45 pm-6:15 pm

Specific Duties of the Job:

● Support in all classroom activities, from housekeeping and meal service to creating educational activities.

● Engage children in small-group activities, contributing to large-group sessions with dynamic and appropriate interactions.

● Take on classroom responsibilities independently as needed.

● Assist with end-of-day cleaning and organization of the classroom.

Education and Experience

Required:

● High School diploma or equivalent required.

● 6 Months’ or more teaching experience in any licensed facility with students ages 2.5-6

Preferred:

● Preschool CDA credential, Associate Degree, or higher in Early Childhood Education preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

● Ability to work with a variety of co-workers in a positive and professional way.

● Genuine warmth, concern for children, and an understanding of their developmental needs.

● Respect for children’s ideas and individual differences.

● Ability to implement teaching (new) strategies and manage classroom activities effectively.

● Capability to handle emergencies and adapt to changes smoothly.

Guest Experience: Education & Admin

The Museum at Prairiefire is looking to hire a part-time Guest Experience: Education & Admin position. This is a part-time position with potential hours available all days of the week on an as needed basis. This position consists of:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teaching Little Explorers Classes 3-5 year olds

  • Processing and managing Memberships

  • Greeting and checking-in guests at our Welcome Desk

  • Selling tickets, memberships, postcards, and other merchandise

  • Opening and closing the cash drawer and Great Hall technology

  • Answering the phone

  • Going over the Visitor Guides with guests

  • Answering guests questions

  • Facilitating education in our Discovery Room

  • Opening and closing the Discovery Room

  • Feeding the animals

  • Greeting guests and answering questions

  • Cleaning and resetting the Discovery Room as needed

  • Facilitating Virtual Reality

  • Setting up and running the virtual reality system for guests

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES IF NEEDED

  • Facilitate Birthday Parties

  • Be the point of contact for the birthday party guests while in the building

  • Direct birthday party guests to the birthday party location

  • Facilitate the Discovery Room for the birthday party

  • Facilitate Programming

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma

  • Teaching experience-preferred but not required

  • Love inspiring young minds-required

  • Proficient in Excel
