Dinosaurs get a lot of attention, but the giant mammals that once roamed the Sunflower State were just as fascinating. One thing that makes this group of animals interesting is their existence coincided with modern humans right here in Kansas! In fact, studies show that the first people who migrated down into modern-day Kansas were probably hunting mammoths.
In this camp, learn about mammoths, sabre-toothed cats, giant ground sloths of the last ice age as well as the much more ancient mammalian ancestors that were here even before the age of dinosaurs. Alongside some activities and videos, you will use your knowledge of these animals and the environments they lived in to join in discussion about what caused their extinction.
For elementary school age learners.
