SciFun Camp: Scientific Origin of Halloween

Why do we carve pumpkins?  Do the big, furry spiders we see in Halloween decorations really live in webs?  Halloween is a fun holiday, but the modern version has gone through many changes over the last two thousand years…and a lot of it has to do with science!  For example, people in Europe did not carve pumpkins.  They couldn’t simply because pumpkins are only found in North America.  Until they arrived in North America, they would use turnips instead.

Along with learning about the science and some cultural origins behind the modern celebration we call Halloween, we will also watch holiday movies, enjoy snacks, and carve our very own turnips!

For elementary school age learners.

Camp runs October 31st. Drop-off for camps are from 8:00-8:20 (drop off) to 3:30-4:00 (pick-up).

Cost is $40 for members and $50 for non members (Members, please log in to your account and use the discount code previously emailed to you)
