Join us from Noon to 4 pm as we celebrate May Day! May Day is a holiday observed on May 1st in both medieval and modern Europe to commemorate the arrival of spring. Gathering green branches and wildflowers, weaving floral garlands, crowning a May king and queen, and erecting a decorated May tree, or Maypole, around which people danced, became part of the celebrations. The initial purpose of these rituals might have been to guarantee crop fertility, which would have extended to animal and human fertility as well. However, this meaning was typically lost with time, leaving the rituals mostly as celebratory customs. We will have a fun make your own Maypole craft for the young and young at heart as well as Origami with Archie!
