If you've ever helped with cooking or cleaning up dishes, you've probably noticed different liquids being used for certain jobs.  Some liquids are good for rinsing and cleaning while others are edible substances that can be thick and gooey.  Even with the same liquid, adding one or more ingredients to it can change its properties.  Thinking about what you already know about water, how is water different when you add salt to it?

In this JAM session, we will conduct an experiment to see what, if any, effect adding salt to water will have on an object's ability to float.  As a fun extension, we will take our knowledge of the density of different liquids to make a lava lamp!

PLEASE NOTE:

  • We require a 24 hour cancellation notice for Little Explorers Club and JAM Sessions reservations via emailing info@visitthemap.org. Please include the name on the reservation, number of students, date and time of the class.

  • Please help create an outstanding learning environment by limiting disruptions in the classroom!

  • Parents are, of course, always welcome to remain in class but should a parent choose to step out, we have provided a seating area just outside the classrooms. Parents and siblings are also welcome to explore our Discovery Room or the rest of the Museum until the class concludes.
