Spring has arrived, and warmer weather is on its way!  Now is a great time to head outside and watch the first flower blooms and check out what’s happening at the local parks, or even your backyard.  If you are near a stream, do you notice anything?  Are there ducks and other birds nearby?  If you are near a wetland habitat, you may notice Red-winged blackbirds.  There’s something else to look out for, too.  They’re tiny animals you may not have thought to look for, but you can find them swimming in a wetland stream.

In this investigative activity, you will get to see some of the small things you might normally miss that are alive in our streams.  You will collect water samples, and you will observe and make notes and drawings of what you find.  You can use a net to see what you can catch along the bank.  Whatever you discover, part of being a scientist is knowing how to make good observations and keep good records…either as drawings, descriptions, video or photographs.

Class is at 10:15 am

PLEASE NOTE:

  • We require a 24 hour cancellation notice for Little Explorers Club and JAM Sessions reservations via emailing info@visitthemap.org. Please include the name on the reservation, number of students, date and time of the class.

  • Please help create an outstanding learning environment by limiting disruptions in the classroom!

  • Parents are, of course, always welcome to remain in class but should a parent choose to step out, we have provided a seating area just outside the classrooms. Parents and siblings are also welcome to explore our Discovery Room or the rest of the Museum until the class concludes.
